My dedication to the visual arts began as one thread among many interests. I began college as a biology major which, in recent years, has had the unlikely result of my cell paintings being featured on magazine covers. After switching my major several times and taking art history, studio art and other relevant courses along the way, I received High Honors from Wesleyan University, CT in 1989 for a thesis involving both written and visual interpretations of the writings of medieval women mystics. The techniques and concepts I began investigating in this thesis became the underpinning of much of my later work-- for example, informing my 'memory' paintings, two of which have been included since 1992 in a 'Memory' Collection of a psychology professor at Harvard University. My cover for the text book, Society and Nature (Polity Press, 2004) is another direct outgrowth of my early thesis investigations. I have furthered my studies at a variety of institutions and programs, with abundant self-prescribed courses, with travel and with a dedication to haunting libraries and museums. My work has been featured in numerous publications, and I have participated in many group and solo exhibits in a variety of venues. My work is included in numerous private collections in North America, Mexico and Europe.
